Brentford staged a thrilling comeback to preserve their unbeaten home record in the Premier League, clinching a 3-2 victory over Bournemouth at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The game unfolded dramatically, with Brentford battling back twice to overcome Bournemouth’s early leads in a fiercely contested match.
Bournemouth arrived in west London full of confidence, having recently toppled Premier League heavyweights Manchester City and Arsenal.
They looked to extend that momentum as they went ahead twice, first with a cool finish from club-record signing Evanilson and later with a well-rehearsed set-piece goal from Justin Kluivert.
Evanilson seized an opportunity from Sepp van den Berg’s errant backpass, rounding Brentford’s Mark Flekken to notch his third goal in as many games—a streak that had already seen him on the scoresheet against both City and Aston Villa.
Despite Bournemouth’s momentum, Brentford’s resilience was unmatched. The home side found their equalizer through Yoane Wissa’s well-timed header at the back post, connecting with a long throw-in after Bournemouth’s first goal.
This gave Brentford the lift they needed to turn the game around. In the second half, Kluivert’s set-piece goal briefly restored Bournemouth’s lead, but Brentford struck back almost instantly, leveling the score just 21 seconds later when Mikkel Damsgaard beat Bournemouth’s keeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga, at his near post—a misstep on a shaky day for the Chelsea loanee.
The decision by Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola to sideline Mark Travers, who had impressed in his last two outings, was brought into question.
The crowd was treated to a whirlwind ten-minute span that saw Wissa find the net again with a beautifully chipped finish, securing Brentford’s comeback and giving them the lead for the first time.
His second goal would ultimately be the game-winner, sparking celebration in the home stands and pushing Brentford up to 10th in the table.
