The 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Bayero, has called off the Eid-el-Fitr Durbar celebration due to security concerns in the state.
Speaking at his Nasarawa Mini Palace on Wednesday night, Emir Bayero informed journalists of the decision, emphasizing that maintaining peace and unity among the people is more important than holding the Durbar.
The celebration was initially set to coincide with the Emir’s fifth anniversary on the throne.
However, after consulting with respected Islamic clerics, elders, stakeholders, and members of his council, he decided to cancel the event in the interest of stability.
Encouraging residents to embrace the spirit of the season, Emir Bayero urged them to use the Sallah period to strengthen bonds with family and friends while celebrating in a peaceful and harmonious manner.
He also offered prayers for divine blessings and mercy during Ramadan, hoping the people of Kano would receive forgiveness and grace.
