The Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun State has issued a safety advisory to motorists ahead of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, warning against transporting inflammable materials such as gas to prevent fire-related incidents.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday in Ota, the Ota Unit Commander of the FRSC, Mr. Wasiu Ogunmefun, stressed that the advisory was crucial for ensuring road safety during the festive period.
According to Ogunmefun, the primary objective is to minimize the risk of fire outbreaks and explosions that could lead to tragic loss of lives and property.
He also urged motorists to exercise patience and drive cautiously, particularly on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, which remains under construction.
“We urge motorists not to carry anything that has the potential to ignite a fire to prevent mishaps on the highway during this period,” Ogunmefun stated.
Furthermore, he warned against excessive speeding and driving against traffic, emphasizing the need for road users to prioritize safety.
In addition, he advised against overloading vehicles, highlighting that an overloaded car becomes more vulnerable to accidents.
He also cautioned motorists against transporting humans alongside animals, adding that offenders would be apprehended by FRSC personnel.
Ogunmefun reiterated the importance of motorists cooperating with FRSC officers deployed to manage traffic, ensure road safety, and respond to emergencies along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
Meanwhile, NAN reported that the Federal Government has declared March 31 and April 1 as public holidays for the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations nationwide.
