The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has announced the promotion of 900 personnel and the reinstatement of life and property insurance policies that have been absent for two decades.
The Chairman of the EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, made this known during the commission’s 2024 Rewards and Recognition ceremony held in Abuja on Saturday.
“We have approved the promotion of about 900 staff, some of whom have been awaiting promotion for six or seven years,” Olukoyede said.
“Efforts are also being made to address the issue of insurance. For 20 years, we have not had life or property insurance, but I believe within the next one or two months, we should have it in place.”
The EFCC Chairman assured operatives that the commission is committed to addressing welfare challenges and improving working conditions.
He revealed plans to ease transportation issues by acquiring new buses and hinted at a potential cost of living adjustment for staff.
“We are doing everything possible to ensure that our welfare is well taken care of, even if it means stretching our resources,” he stated. “We deserve it because of the risks we take in this job.”
Olukoyede issued a stern warning to staff engaging in corrupt practices, emphasizing the ongoing internal reforms to uphold integrity within the commission.
“For those taking shortcuts to help themselves, I urge you to retrace your steps,” he warned. “The internal cleansing within the commission will spare no one. Integrity is our best preservation, and anything short of it is a disaster waiting to happen.”
The EFCC chairman also directed that a building in the EFCC academy be named after Aminu Salisu, an officer killed during an operation in Awka, Anambra State.
“No officer who is killed or injured in the line of duty will ever be forgotten,” Olukoyede assured.
During the ceremony, 35 EFCC operatives were honored for their exceptional contributions. Among the awardees were Maryam Ahmed, Eunice Dalylop, Mukhtar Ahmed, Michael Uchechika, and Yusuf Umar.
Olukoyede praised their dedication, saying, “This recognition shows that hard work pays and integrity has its rewards. It is a morale booster for all of us.”
