AZ Alkmaar secured their spot in the KNVB Cup final after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Heracles Almelo.
With Go Ahead Eagles having eliminated PSV on Wednesday, both AZ and Heracles saw a clear path to potential silverware.
The match got off to a fast start, with Jan Zamburek striking the post for Heracles in just the third minute.
However, AZ drew first blood when Ernest Poku capitalized on an excellent setup by Mayckel Lahdo. The lead was short-lived, as Damon Mirani responded five minutes later with a powerful header to level the score.
AZ regained the advantage before the half-hour mark through a superb effort from Lahdo, and they nearly extended their lead when Peer Koopmeiners struck the post.
Despite their dominance, AZ struggled to put the game to bed in the second half, and a costly mistake by Kristijan Belic handed Suf Podgoreanu an equalizer, forcing extra time.
As the deadlock remained unbroken, the match was decided by penalties. Heracles had a golden chance to seal the win, but Ivan Mesik failed to convert his decisive spot-kick.
Lahdo then edged AZ ahead, and when Bryan Limbombe missed his attempt, AZ celebrated their hard-fought passage to the final.
AZ Alkmaar will now battle Go Ahead Eagles for the coveted trophy.
