Borussia Dortmund comfortably advanced to the Champions League last 16 after holding Sporting to a 0-0 draw in the second leg of their knockout phase playoff on Wednesday.
The result sealed a 3-0 aggregate victory for last season’s runners-up.
Sporting traveled to Germany with an uphill task following their heavy first-leg defeat at home.
However, the Portuguese side never showed signs of mounting a comeback, failing to trouble Dortmund’s defense.
Despite dominating the attacking play, the hosts couldn’t break the deadlock. Serhou Guirassy, the competition’s top scorer this season, saw his second-half penalty saved, while Emre Can had a goal ruled out for offside.
With their place in the last 16 secured, Dortmund will now await Friday’s draw to determine whether they will face Aston Villa or Lille in the next round.
