Chelsea Football Club has reached an agreement to acquire the services of Moises Caicedo, a midfielder from Brighton and Hove Albion, for a transfer fee of £115 million ($146 million, 133 million euros).
This transfer cost sets a new record for the most amount paid for a British player.
The Ecuadorian international, aged 21, had also garnered interest from Liverpool, a fellow Premier League team. On Friday, Liverpool reportedly reached an agreement with Brighton for a cost of £110 million, which is believed to be a record amount.
However, it has been revealed during the weekend that Caicedo has expressed a preference for a transfer to Chelsea. It is reported that he will be signing an eight-year contract with the club located in west London.
Chelsea, who drew 1-1 with Liverpool in their Premier League opener on Sunday, hope Caicedo will be available for next weekend’s trip to West Ham United.
He might play with Enzo Fernandez in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad. Fernandez arrived from Benfica earlier this year for what at the time was a British record £107 million.
Caicedo was not included in Brighton’s lineup for their 4-1 victory over Luton Town at home on Saturday.
