The Bauchi State branch of Nigeria’s apex bank, the Central Bank of Nigeria has provided significant support to local healthcare by constructing a Tuberculosis Directly Observed Treatment center valued at over N4 million.
This project, executed by the bank’s Alms Committee as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts, was accompanied by a donation of essential hospital equipment, enhancing the quality of healthcare resources available to the community.
This intervention primarily benefits residents of the Buzaye, Ganjuwa, and Dawaki wards within Bauchi Local Government Area, where access to healthcare is critical.
The facility was officially handed over to the community during a ceremony where the Head of Banking Services at the CBN Bauchi branch emphasized the bank’s unwavering dedication to giving back to society through initiatives tailored to meet local needs.
“Corporate social responsibility is an established practice across the corporate world. This year, our focus is on health,” stated Umar, highlighting that CBN’s yearly interventions evolve in response to the needs of the communities served.
He also recalled past initiatives, which included the construction of boreholes to provide clean water and the provision of classroom furniture to support education in underserved areas.
“We hope that communities will utilise these resources judiciously for long-term benefit,” he added, expressing optimism that the impact of these projects would resonate for years to come.
Receiving the facility on behalf of the community, the Ganjuwa Community Head, Aminu Ibrahim Tsoho, extended heartfelt thanks to the CBN staff for their efforts and expressed appreciation for completing the facility in a timely manner.
“The CBN staff has built this facility for us, and we appreciate it,” he affirmed, noting that community members were committed to maintaining the center’s upkeep. “The residents are working tirelessly to ensure the facility remains in good condition, just as they maintain the hospital,” Tsoho said.
Tsoho also urged the healthcare personnel to embrace their responsibilities with diligence, underlining the need for quality care.
“I call on the management and staff of this facility to discharge their duties responsibly,” he stressed, underscoring the importance of the new center for the community’s health.
In addition, Bashir Shehu Nababa, who oversees the Primary Healthcare Centre in Ganjuwa, expressed his gratitude for the intervention and assured both the CBN and the local residents of the commitment to preserving the new facility.
“We are happy to be among the beneficiaries, and we will take good care of this building,” Nababa assured, pledging to keep the facility well-maintained and operational.
Similarly, Hauwa Yohanna Adamu, the officer in charge at Urban Maternity Kofar Ran, acknowledged the critical role of the donated equipment, highlighting its impact on day-to-day healthcare delivery.
“These items are very important to our work, and we were in dire need of them. We are very grateful,” Adamu stated, underscoring the importance of the support provided by the CBN.
Through this latest initiative, the CBN Bauchi branch has once again demonstrated its commitment to enhancing the well-being of local residents by investing in improved healthcare infrastructure and resources that will support public health in the long term.
