CAF has turned to Egypt to step in as the emergency host for the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations following Côte d’Ivoire’s unexpected decision to withdraw from organizing the tournament.
Egypt, which successfully hosted the previous edition in 2023, is now being considered for a back-to-back role in staging the competition.
Originally scheduled to begin on April 26, 2025, the tournament could now face a slight delay to accommodate the change in venue.
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles secured their spot in the tournament after emerging victorious in the WAFU B qualifiers held in Togo last year.
They now face a challenging group stage, having been drawn alongside Egypt, Morocco, and South Africa.
The stakes are high, as the four best-performing teams in this edition will secure their tickets to the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup, set to take place in Chile in October.
