Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has made it clear that he does not wish to be compared to Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti.
In a statement shared via Instagram on Monday, Burna Boy declared, “I’m not Fela; I’m BIG7.”
The self-styled “African Giant” used his platform to discuss authenticity, integrity, and the growing culture of dishonesty on social media as the year draws to a close.
While emphasizing his commitment to “positivity, peace, and prosperity,” Burna Boy added a striking remark: “Honestly, I’d rather kill you than die for you.”
Addressing what he sees as a troubling trend of falsehoods, the musician urged people to prioritize honesty in the coming year. “If you ever lied about buying Sujimoto’s house in Banana Island when you only rented it, do better in 2025,” he said. He also criticized individuals who misrepresent their possessions, saying, “If you have an aftermarket ‘rainbow Daytona,’ please stop telling people it’s real. Do better in 2025.”
Burna Boy’s message included a broader critique of deceptive behavior, stating, “It should be a criminal offence to tell as many lies as certain men. The list can go on and on.”
The artist hinted at a potential interview with renowned Nigerian media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, expressing interest despite his general aversion to interviews. “Ebuka still dey do all those interview[s]? I no like interview at all, but I go like run 1,” he wrote.
