The grandson of iconic reggae musician, Bob Marley, and the Jamaican-American son of Stephen Marley, Joseph Mersa-Marley, has passed away on Tuesday at the age of 31.
According to the streaming service TIDAL, the reggae musician was discovered unconscious in a car in the United States on Tuesday.
The musician, who performed under the moniker Jo Mersa, reportedly had asthma his entire life and was said to have passed away after having an asthma attack, following Florida radio station WZPP, to The Daily Mail.
Bob, who tragically passed away from cancer in 1981 at the age of 36, is regarded as one of the fathers of reggae music. The late celebrity fathered 11 kids with seven different women.
The Daily Mail reports that it has contacted Joseph’s representatives for feedback.
Marley was raised in Jamaica and went to Saints Peter and Paul Preparatory School there. After that, he relocated to Florida and enrolled at Palmetto High School. He majored in studio engineering while attending Miami Dade College.
He released the Comfortable EP in 2014, then in 2021 he released Eternal.
Meanwhile, a new film on Bob Marley is now in production.
In the film, which will be directed by King Richard filmmaker Reinaldo Marcus Green and produced by Rita, her son Ziggy, and daughter Cedella Marley, the renowned singer will be portrayed by Kingsley Ben-Adir.
Lynch’s inclusion in the movie is claimed to have received the approval of Rita and the Marleys.
In a forthcoming biography, Lashana Lynch will play Bob Marley’s wife.
The No Time to Die actress, who played MI6 agent Nomi in the James Bond film, is reportedly in line to play Rita Marley in the as-yet-untitled Paramount movie.
