Nollywood actor, and Lead Pastor of the Fountain of Life Church, Jimmy Odukoya, has stated that the use of earrings and growing of beards is biblical.
He made this clarification during an interview session on BBC Pigin which was published on Wednesday.
PUNCH METRO reported on Sunday that Jimmy Odukoya was named by the Board of Trustees of the church to replace the late Pastor Taiwo Odukoya.
The announcement was made during the Sunday service held at the church’s headquarters in Lagos.
A pastor of the church, Rotimi Okpauae said that the late Taiwo Odukoya confided in the board of trustees about the succession plan before his demise.
The announcement has continued to generate mixed reactions from Nigerians.
While some content that Jimmy Odukoya profile does not match his new roles, some stated that the church is turning to a family business.
While reacting to the various speculations regarding his new position in the fountain of life church, he explained that his choices are biblically backed.
“Everything I do is scripturally backed up, whenever I am questioned about my appearance, I tell them to check the bible.
“When they tell me long hair is wrong, I tell them that didn’t God asked Samson not to cut his hair, or when they ask that keeping beards is wrong, I remind them that didn’t the Bible say that the people pulled the hairs in the cheek of Jesus.
“Also when they say that Pastor is using earrings, I tell them to go to the book of Exodus, where the children of Israel, who are God’s people, donated their jeweleries to make golden calf when they left Egypt”, he said in Pigin.
He also revealed that he was ordained a minister in the year 2009 in the church.
Jimmy is a Nollywood actor and musician who started his acting career in 2016 after featuring in ‘Baby Shower’.
He has played one of the lead roles Oba Ade in Netflix’s ‘Woman King’ movie and has also been featured in movies like ‘Lifting the Veil’, ‘I am Nazzy’, and ‘Oga Pastor’, among others.
