Atletico Madrid and Manchester City have reportedly come to an agreement regarding the transfer of Julian Alvarez.
The Argentine forward is poised to become City’s record sale, with a deal valued at £81.5m, €95m, including add-ons.
The Athletic, which initially revealed the advanced negotiations between Atletico and Manchester City earlier this week, now confirms that the two clubs have finalized the deal.
Alvarez is set to negotiate personal terms for his move to the Estadio Metropolitano and is expected to approve the transfer soon.
The 24-year-old striker has recently expressed his desire for more playing time, despite having played 103 matches and scored 36 goals over his two seasons at City.
City acquired Alvarez from River Plate in 2022 for a modest fee of £14m, and they now stand to make nearly six times that amount back, pending the fulfillment of all add-ons.
In related news, Atletico Madrid has reconsidered their decision to sell young striker Samu Omorodion to Chelsea for approximately £34.4m.
This change of heart has allowed them to pursue Alvarez more aggressively.
Atletico previously rejected a £27.4m bid from Chelsea for the 20-year-old in June, but this deal is now back on and could be finalized soon.
Additionally, Atletico is nearing the acquisition of Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.
Gallagher, who has one year left on his contract with the Blues, is expected to travel to Spain for a medical and has already approved the move. He will join Atletico for £34.2m.
Atletico has been active in the transfer market, already spending £29.6m on Real Sociedad center-back Robin Le Normand and £27.5m on Villarreal striker Alexander Sorloth.
