The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Olufemi Oluyede, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to eradicating terrorism, emphasizing that insurgents will find no refuge until they are completely neutralized.
Speaking on Tuesday during a visit to the 35 Artillery Brigade in Alamala, Abeokuta, Oluyede stated that the military is intensifying its operations to eliminate terrorists, particularly in the northeast.
“We have been making concerted efforts to ensure that these terrorists are wiped out from Nigeria,” he said. “All hands are on deck to improve security across the country.”
The Army Chief, who was accompanied by senior military officials, inspected the quarter guard before addressing personnel. He highlighted the progress made in tackling banditry and reiterated that the military is deploying new strategies to enhance security.
“A significant number of bandits have been eliminated, and their activities have been greatly reduced, especially in the north, because we took the fight to them,” Oluyede stated. “We are refining our tactics to achieve better results and make Nigeria safer.”
Beyond counterterrorism efforts, Oluyede stressed the importance of soldiers’ welfare, noting that improved well-being directly impacts their effectiveness in safeguarding the nation.
“My visit is primarily to assess the condition of my soldiers and ensure their welfare is prioritized,” he explained. “We are working on enhancing their well-being and operational capacity, so they can carry out their duties more efficiently.”
