Operatives of the Ekiti State Amotekun Corps have apprehended 34-year-old Oluwabunmi Anifowose for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl in Efon Alaaye.
The arrest occurred on Saturday at a hideout in Ijebu-Ijesha, Osun State, where Anifowose had fled to evade capture. Brigadier General Olu Adewa (retd.), the corps commander, stated, “The suspect was hiding among suspected cult members” and has since been transferred to the police for further investigation.
Additionally, two men were arrested in Ikole Ekiti for stealing an iron door. Adewa emphasized that “there is no hiding place for criminals” and urged residents to provide information to aid security efforts.
According to a statement on Sunday by the Head of Communications, Ekiti Amotekun Corps, Abiodun Adeleye, stated that information had it that the minor was sent on an errand to buy fufu from another street when she was accosted by the suspects and the consequent rape incident occurred.
The corps commander stated, “The Amotekun officers stated that the suspect was arrested in Ijebu-Ijesha, Osun State, where he was hiding himself in the midst of his colleagues who were suspected to be cult members.
“The suspect has been handed over to the police at Efon Ekiti Division for further investigation and necessary action.”
He added that Amotekun operatives at Ikole Ekiti also on the same day arrested two men—30-year-old Mr. Usman Sheidu and 32-year-old gateman Mr. Olalekan Aluko—for allegedly stealing an iron door at the Oke-ljebu Agege area in the Ikole Local Government Area.
He said, “Upon interrogation by the arresting Amotekun officers, the two suspects confessed to the crime. The duo have since been handed over to the Divisional Police in Ikole Ekiti for further profiling.
