McAnderson Institute of Technology collaborated with the African Development Bank Group to deliver a transformative two-day training programme in data analytics to students at Covenant University.
This comes as an initiative to tackle Nigeria’s economic challenges with data-driven solutions.
This programme, held at the AfDB Centre of Excellence in Otta, Ogun State, focused on empowering students with essential data analytics skills to thrive in Nigeria’s dynamic economic landscape.
The event, as stated in a release provided to The PUNCH, was structured to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills in data analytics.
Under the guidance of Boluwatife Oludipin, a Google-certified data analyst, participants engaged in hands-on exercises tailored to the practical applications of data analytics, specifically in diagnosing and solving complex economic problems.
Experts at the event, including Frederick Oscar and Hope Oladele, highlighted the crucial role data literacy plays in enhancing economic resilience.
“These students will be crucial in driving Nigeria’s tech-driven economy,” they remarked, underscoring the potential impact of data-savvy graduates on Nigeria’s future economic stability.
Adding to the discourse, Godwin Ebong, an international expert in data and analytics, noted the broader potential of data literacy to stimulate economic innovation.
COO of McAnderson Institute of Technology, Ajiboye Ayobamidele, emphasized that the training’s purpose was to “bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world industry needs.”
He elaborated that by blending classroom knowledge with direct industry insights, the programme aims to prepare students to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s economy.
With this intensive training, Covenant University students gained valuable skills, mentorship from industry professionals, and new connections within the data analytics field, all of which position them to play pivotal roles in advancing Nigeria’s economic development.
