Veteran Nollywood actor, Yemi Solade, has revealed his battle with depression.
The actor who took to his Instagram page posted, “Depression, God help me please”.
In another followup post, he wrote, “Nigeria, to live and survive in it, one must belong to the cult”.
Yemi Solade is a seasoned actor and producer in Nollywood. He was born on January 31, 1960, in Lagos. He is well-known in the film business for his parts in the films Voiceless Scream, The Widow, and Elevator Baby.
When he was 17, he made his acting debut at Festac 77, an arts and culture festival that year. He represented Africa in international dance contests in Spain as a young Surulere lad, winning the dancing championship in Lagos State three years in a row.
In a 45-minute monologue titled “Crazy Youngie,” the actor made his stage debut, playing the parts of a passenger and a driver.
Yemi Solade began lecturing in universities and polytechnics after completing his schooling, including the University of Maiduguri, Ramat Polytechnic, and Kaduna Polytechnic. He continued on, becoming the Associate Director of the Kaduna Music and Drama in Kaduna which was founded by the Deputy British High Commission.
Then, in 1993, he relocated to O.A.U., where he was appointed artistic director of Professor Ola Rotimi’s theater ensemble. Oju Inu (Insight), directed by PEFTI Film Institute owner Wale Adenuga, was the first Yoruba feature he ever shot. His team was the first to have a movie premiere at Muson Center, but the film didn’t advance further at that point because of financial difficulties.
