The Sokoto State Ministry of Health has issued a strong advisory to residents following a surge in meningitis cases across several local government areas.
In a statement on Tuesday, Commissioner of Health, Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar Wurno, emphasized the need for heightened vigilance as laboratory tests confirmed meningitis in multiple samples collected from suspected cases.
According to Dr. Abubakar, the ministry has ramped up surveillance, case management, and public health interventions to contain the spread of the disease.
He urged residents to take necessary precautions, stressing the importance of early medical attention.
“Seek immediate medical attention at the nearest health facility upon experiencing symptoms such as fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, or any unusual symptoms,” he advised.
He further recommended maintaining good personal and environmental hygiene, avoiding crowded places, and ensuring proper ventilation in both homes and public spaces.
Abubakar also urged citizens to report any suspected cases or unusual illnesses to the nearest hospital for swift medical response.
Meanwhile, Governor Ahmed Aliyu has ensured that all health facilities across the state are stocked with the necessary medications to combat the outbreak.
