A fire outbreak occurred on Monday at the premises of Geometric Power, also known as Aba Power, in Aba, Abia State.
In a statement released by the company, the management confirmed that the fire started in the early hours of the morning, though the cause remains undetermined.
“There was a fire outbreak early this morning in a temporary building on the premises of Geometric Power, Nigeria’s foremost integrated power company, located in the Osisioma Industrial Layout, Aba, Abia State,” the statement read.
The affected building, according to the company, was previously used by Group 5, a now-defunct South African electricity firm, during the construction of facilities at the power plant. However, it had been largely unused for over 12 years.
The management stated that its staff contained the fire before the Abia State Fire Service arrived, commending both the emergency responders and employees for their swift action.
“We appreciate the vigilance and gallant efforts of our staff in containing the fire, as well as the prompt response and professionalism of the Abia State Fire Service,” the statement added.
The company also expressed gratitude to the public for their concern and assured residents of their continued efforts to provide stable, high-quality, and affordable electricity within the Aba Power Ring-fenced Area and beyond.
“Geometric Power remains committed to working tirelessly for constant, quality, and affordable electricity supply to drive Nigeria’s socioeconomic development,” the statement concluded.
