A 28-year-old suspected armed robber, Wasiu Aliu, has been arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command while attempting to escape from Sagamu to Ikorodu.
Aliu was caught around 1:05 pm on Tuesday as he rode an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle along the Ikorodu Expressway near the Lafarge Cement Factory in Sagamu.
Confirming the arrest to journalists on Thursday, the State Police Command’s Spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, revealed that a search of the suspect’s bag led to the discovery of a locally made pistol and two cartridges.
She said, “On March 4, 2025, at approximately 1:05 pm, personnel from the Police Mobile Force attached to the Armoured Personnel Carrier on Sagamu bank patrol duties, acted on credible intelligence and apprehended a robbery suspect.
“The suspect, Wasiu Aliu, a 28-year-old male resident of Ikorodu, Lagos, was intercepted and apprehended near the Lafarge Cement Factory in Sagamu, along the Ikorodu Expressway.
“At the time of arrest, he was fleeing Sagamu towards Ikorodu on an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle. A subsequent search of the suspect yielded a locally made pistol and two expended cartridges.”
Odutola further stated that the suspect, along with the recovered weapon and motorcycle, had been transferred to the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Police in Sagamu for further investigation.
