An Abeokuta Magistrate’s Court has postponed the trial of popular musician Habeeb Okikiola, known as Portable, to March 26 to allow for the consolidation of charges against him and his workers.
During the court session on Wednesday, the prosecution requested an adjournment, arguing that hearing the cases separately would be inefficient.
Senior State Counsel, Timileyin Oredein, informed the court that Portable’s case was linked to a similar case involving nine of his workers, who were arraigned on February 6.
He emphasized that merging the charges would streamline the legal process.
The court had previously arraigned Portable and his workers on a five-count charge, which included conspiracy, assault, unlawful obstruction while in possession of dangerous weapons, and conduct likely to incite public disturbance.
The charges also involved the alleged assault of three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
Following the prosecution’s request, the court set March 26 as the new date for the case to proceed with the merged charges.
