A Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an order restraining the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions from proceeding with disciplinary actions against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central.
According to The PUNCH, Justice Obiora Egwuatu granted the order on Tuesday after hearing an ex parte motion filed by the senator’s legal team.
The controversy stems from a heated exchange on February 20 between Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seat allocation in the Red Chamber.
The Kogi senator rejected her assigned seat, continued to raise a point of order despite being overruled, and defied Akpabio’s directives.
During plenary, Senator Yemi Adaramodu of Ekiti South described the incident as damaging to the Senate’s reputation.
He noted that efforts to provide clarity on the matter had been ineffective, as public perception had already been shaped by Akpoti-Uduaghan’s actions.
As a result, the Senate referred the matter to its Ethics Committee for disciplinary review. This decision was made during plenary last Tuesday, following the presentation of Adaramodu’s report.
The chamber approved the referral through a voice vote conducted by Akpabio, who directed the committee to investigate the matter and report its findings.
