The Coalition of Yoruba Youth Leaders has called on the Federal Government and security agencies to strengthen efforts in protecting Nigerians following the abduction and eventual release of Afenifere Youth Council President, Prince Eniola Ojajuni.
Expressing deep concern over the growing menace of kidnappings across the country, the coalition emphasized that urgent security interventions are necessary to prevent others from suffering the ordeal Ojajuni went through.
Ojajuni was kidnapped by gunmen on February 17 while traveling from Lagos to Abuja.
In a video released from captivity, he pleaded with Nigerians to assist in raising funds for his ransom, as his abductors had demanded N100 million for his release.
Reports later revealed that he was shot in the buttocks by the kidnappers.
Following his release on Saturday evening in Ibillo, Edo State, Ojajuni appeared in a video confirming that he had been freed.
In a statement issued after his release, the National Secretary of the coalition, Akeem Adeleke, expressed relief while stressing the need for increased vigilance and security measures.
“With profound relief and immense gratitude, the Coalition of Yoruba Youth Leaders joyfully announces the safe release of our esteemed compatriot, the Afenifere Youth Council President, Prince Eniola Joseph Ojajuni, from the clutches of his abductors.
“This incident is a stark reminder of the perils that threaten our nation’s security and reinforces the urgent need for decisive action against the scourge of kidnapping.
“We implore the authorities to redouble their efforts in safeguarding the lives of every Nigerian, ensuring that no family, community, or movement has to endure such trauma again.
“As we collectively rejoice, let this moment serve as a rallying call for unwavering solidarity, proactive vigilance, and steadfast commitment to justice and freedom. The Coalition of Yoruba Youth Leaders remains resolute in its mission to uphold the dignity, safety, and prosperity of our people.”
Adeleke further disclosed that Ojajuni was receiving urgent medical treatment following his traumatic experience. He commended the youth leader’s resilience, describing it as “a testament to the unbreakable spirit of our people.”
