Residents in parts of Abuja will experience a temporary power outage this weekend as the Transmission Company of Nigeria, conducts maintenance work on two transformers at the Apo 132/33kV Transmission Substation.
In a statement released on Friday, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, announced that the preventive maintenance would take place on Saturday, February 22, and Sunday, February 23, 2025, between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm daily.
The exercise will result in power disruptions across several locations, as the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company will be unable to receive bulk power supply from the affected transformers during the maintenance period.
“The planned power interruptions are unavoidable, as Abuja DisCo will be unable to receive bulk power supply from the transformers during the maintenance period,” Mbah stated. “Power supply will be restored to the affected areas upon completion of the maintenance exercise.”
On Saturday, February 22, areas such as National Hospital, G2 Injection Station, Garki, Area 1, and Asokoro will be impacted by the seven-hour outage.
The following day, Sunday, February 23, residents in Apo Legislative Quarters, Apo Resettlement, Gudu, Apo Mechanic, and surrounding areas will also experience a power cut for the same duration.
TCN emphasized that the maintenance is necessary to ensure the optimal performance of the transformers.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause the affected electricity customers,” the statement added. “Power supply will be restored once the maintenance exercise is completed.”
Residents and businesses in the affected areas are advised to plan accordingly during the scheduled outage.
