Nigerian winger, Chrisantus Uche, made an immediate impact, scoring just three minutes into the match to set Getafe on course for a 2-1 triumph over Girona at the Estadi Municipal de Montilivi on Friday.
Fresh off a narrow 1-0 victory against Deportivo Alaves, Getafe entered the contest eager to secure back-to-back league wins for the first time this season.
Meanwhile, Girona were desperate for a turnaround, having suffered five defeats in their last six outings across all competitions.
Getafe’s intent was clear from the kickoff, and Uche wasted no time in making his mark, netting his third La Liga goal of the campaign to hand the visitors an early lead. The advantage remained intact heading into the halftime break.
Girona responded early in the second half, leveling the score in the 54th minute through Yangel Herrera.
However, their resurgence was short-lived as Borja Mayoral struck just eight minutes later, restoring Getafe’s lead and ultimately securing all three points.
With the win, Getafe climbed to 11th place in the La Liga standings with 30 points from 24 matches, while Girona, on 31 points, slipped to eighth.
Looking ahead, Getafe will aim to extend their winning streak when they take on Real Betis on Sunday, February 23. Meanwhile, Girona face a daunting challenge as they travel to the capital for a clash against Real Madrid.
