The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, has launched an investigation into an altercation between a lecturer and a student that escalated into a physical confrontation.
The incident, which took place at the Faculty of Arts on Tuesday, reportedly involved a lecturer, Dr. Chukwudi Okoye from the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies, and Goddy Mbakwe Precious, a third-year student in the Department of History and International Studies.
The confrontation allegedly stemmed from the lecturer’s attempt to pass by the student while she was recording a TikTok video.
Eyewitnesses said the student was dancing in the corridor while another person filmed her when Dr. Okoye attempted to walk past. In doing so, he tapped her on the shoulder and said, “Excuse me.” However, the student reacted angrily, accusing the lecturer of hitting her.
One witness recounted, “She was dancing while someone was recording her. The lecturer, trying to pass, touched her shoulder and asked her to excuse him. But she got upset, saying, ‘Can you imagine how he just hit me?’”
According to reports, the disagreement quickly escalated into a heated exchange, leading to a physical struggle between the two.
The situation worsened when the student allegedly bit the lecturer on the wrist and arm.
A viral video circulating online captures the moment the student reacted after being tapped. In the footage, she is seen glaring at the lecturer and expressing her displeasure.
Reacting to the incident, the university’s management condemned the altercation and assured the public of a thorough investigation.
