Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman’s stunning strike wasn’t enough to prevent Atalanta from falling to Napoli, who secured a dramatic 3-2 victory at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo on Saturday.
Lookman’s goal, scored in the 55th minute, brought Atalanta level at 2-2 in a pulsating encounter.
However, Romelu Lukaku’s clinical header in the 78th minute sealed all three points for Napoli, denying Atalanta a chance to share the spoils.
The game began with Mateo Retegui giving Atalanta an early advantage in the 16th minute, finishing off a slick team move.
Napoli quickly responded through Matteo Politano, whose equalizer in the 27th minute marked his second Serie A goal of the season.
Scott McTominay then showcased his prowess, firing Napoli ahead with a thunderous strike in the 40th minute, completing their first-half comeback.
Napoli’s win strengthens their grip on the top spot in Serie A, now boasting 50 points from 21 matches.
Atalanta, on the other hand, remain in third place with 43 points from the same number of games.
Atalanta will now turn their attention to the Champions League, where they face Sturm Graz on Tuesday.
The Bergamo side is desperate to snap their five-game winless streak and secure a place in the Round of 16.
