Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has expressed deep sympathy for victims of the fire outbreak at Ahịa Mgbede, opposite the New Motor Spare Parts Market in Nnewi.
The fire, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, razed several shops and destroyed goods and properties valued at millions of naira.
While the cause of the blaze remains unknown, emergency responders worked to limit the devastation.
In a statement released on Wednesday by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, Soludo described the incident as a heartbreaking loss for many business owners in the state.
“The tragic fire has resulted in substantial destruction of property and livelihoods, leaving countless business owners in severe hardship,” the statement read.
The governor praised the prompt actions of the Anambra State Fire Service and other emergency teams who worked diligently to contain the blaze. “I commend the Anambra State Fire Service and other responders for their tireless efforts in minimizing the damage caused by the fire,” he added.
Soludo also called on market leaders and traders across the state to prioritize fire safety measures. “I urge all business owners to adhere strictly to fire safety guidelines to prevent such unfortunate incidents in the future,” the governor said.
