A 27-year-old woman, Fatima Dzuma, allegedly killed her husband, Baba Aliyu, 25, with pestle in the middle of the night in Minna, Niger State.
The tragic event followed a dispute between the couple before they went to bed the previous evening.
Spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, revealing that Fatima used a pestle to strike her husband on the head while he was asleep, causing his death.
The police received a report early on December 31, around 6 a.m., when the lifeless body of Baba Aliyu was discovered in a nearby bush.
Officers from Katcha Division responded promptly, and their initial investigation revealed that Fatima had told them about a confrontation that had taken place the night before, during which her husband allegedly beat her.
She explained that, in retaliation, she waited for her husband to fall asleep before killing him with a pestle.
Fatima then reportedly tied her husband’s body with clothes and rope, rolled it into the bush, and covered it with a mat.
The PPRO said, “As a result of the scuffle, the suspect waited until when the husband was asleep after which she used a pestle to strike him on the head which led to his death.
“She later tied the deceased with clothes and rope and rolled the corpse to a nearby bush with a mat,” the PPRO confirmed.
The body has been sent to the General Hospital in Bida for a post-mortem, and Fatima has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Minna for further investigation and prosecution.
In a separate case, a 45-year-old man, Aminu Amale, from Shadadi village in Mariga Local Government Area, was arrested for attempting to extort N9.5 million from a farmer.
The suspect allegedly threatened the farmer with kidnapping unless the ransom was paid for the release of harvested guinea corn from his farm.
The police spokespsrson stated that the farmer discovered a letter attached to the guinea corn on December 24, 2025, demanding the large sum of money.
The letter also contained a phone number for contact. Using technical intelligence, the police arrested Aminu Amale, who later confessed to the crime, claiming he needed the money to resolve personal financial challenges.
Aminu has been transferred to SCID, Minna for further investigation and prosecution.
