Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has extended heartfelt Christmas greetings to the Christian community in the state, urging residents to embrace peaceful coexistence, unity, and love during the festive season.
In a statement delivered on Wednesday through his spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, Governor Yusuf expressed gratitude for the divine blessings that have allowed Christians to celebrate another Christmas.
“As you celebrate this season, I encourage you to embody the spirit of mutual respect and peaceful coexistence,” the governor stated.
He highlighted the significance of fostering harmony among diverse communities, emphasizing that the nation’s progress depends on collective unity.
“There is an urgent need to strengthen the spirit of brotherhood, foster unity, and promote love despite our diversities. This is the key to driving Nigeria forward,” Yusuf said.
Reflecting on the teachings of Jesus Christ, the governor urged residents to embrace values such as humanity, love, honesty, kindness, and forgiveness.
“Let this season remind us of the enduring principles of humanity and compassion that Jesus Christ preached. Let us all strive to internalize these lessons,” he added.
Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving social services and infrastructure across Kano State. He noted that significant progress is being made in addressing challenges within the education and health sectors.
“We are working tirelessly to fulfill our campaign promises by prioritizing infrastructure development and improving the quality of life for our citizens,” he said.
He underscored ongoing efforts to revitalize the education sector, including reversing infrastructure decay and strengthening workforce capacity under the state of emergency declared in education.
“We are reversing the deplorable state of educational infrastructure and bolstering manpower in the sector. Education will continue to receive priority attention,” the governor assured.
In the health sector, Yusuf highlighted the reactivation of routine immunization programmes and maternal health services. He also announced the revitalization of Multiple Micronutrients Supplements centres to combat malnutrition in the state.
“Our administration has revived routine immunizations and maternal health services. Additionally, we are tackling malnutrition through the reopening of Multiple Micronutrients Supplements centres,” he said.
Governor Yusuf urged residents to support his administration while refraining from actions that could disrupt peace and security. He warned that his government would decisively confront any attempts to destabilize the state.
“We will collaborate with security agencies to handle any threats to Kano’s stability. Anyone attempting to undermine our administration will face the full force of the law,” Yusuf declared.
In a gesture of goodwill, the governor announced a N20 million donation to selected Christian groups to support their Christmas celebrations.
“This administration has provided N20 million to assist Christian groups in marking the Christmas festivities,” the statement concluded.
