Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has announced a two-week holiday for civil servants in the state to mark Christmas and the New Year.
The holiday, which will run from December 24, 2024, to January 6, 2025, was revealed in the governor’s Christmas message on Tuesday in Makurdi.
In his announcement, Alia stated that the extended holiday aims to allow civil servants to celebrate the festive season with their families.
He also encouraged them to use the break to participate in farming activities, which could contribute to enhancing food production and addressing poverty levels.
“In the spirit of the Yuletide and in conjunction with the Benue Executive Council, I’m pleased to announce an elongated Christmas and New Year holiday for the state workforce. This decision underscores our commitment to supporting the well-being of our workers,” Alia expressed.
“While you enjoy this festive season with your loved ones, it is also expected that the holiday will afford you time to attend to your various agricultural engagements,” he added.
The governor highlighted that essential services would continue through the holiday, with relevant institutions organizing schedules to maintain uninterrupted services.
These services include financial institutions, energy providers, security agencies, hospitals, telecommunications, fire services, and the water board.
Alia further called on the people of Benue to continue embracing love and peace, while also remaining dedicated to building a prosperous state. He concluded with well wishes for a peaceful and joyful Christmas and New Year celebration.
