The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has issued a stern warning to individuals planning to disrupt peace during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
He urged such elements to abandon their plans, affirming that the military remains resolute in safeguarding lives and property across the country.
In a statement released on Tuesday by Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information, General Musa called on members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies to stay alert and proactive against potential threats.
“The Defence Chief charged members of the AFN and all security agencies to remain vigilant and committed to protecting lives and property of all Nigerians,” the statement read.
“He also warned subversive elements and enemies of the state to reconsider any negative actions during the festive period.”
Reflecting on the sacrifices of military personnel, the CDS paid tribute to troops who lost their lives in the line of duty. He described their efforts as the ultimate price for the nation’s peace and security.
“We remember, with heavy hearts, that some of our colleagues who started this year with us have paid the supreme price while defending Nigeria against threats posed by terrorists, bandits, and other non-state actors,” Musa said.
He urged the armed forces to honor these fallen heroes by working towards a more secure 2025. “We must ensure the coming year brings positive changes to security outcomes in all theatres of operation,” he added.
Extending his Christmas greetings to members of the armed forces, security agencies, and Nigerians, General Musa emphasized the symbolic significance of the season. “The birth of Jesus Christ reminds us of hope and goodwill,” he noted.
Addressing Christians within the military and across the nation, the CDS encouraged reflection on God’s love and adoption of virtues such as love, forgiveness, and unity.
While acknowledging the challenges faced during the year, he expressed gratitude for divine protection. “Despite the challenges we have encountered, we are alive to witness another Christmas celebration by God’s grace and mercy,” he remarked.
