Mason Mount is facing a potential months-long absence following a leg injury sustained during Manchester United’s derby victory over Manchester City.
The midfielder, who managed only 14 minutes on the pitch before being substituted, left visibly emotional as he exited the field.
Mount, who has struggled with fitness issues since his move from Chelsea, was described as “really, really sad” in the dressing room afterward.
According to talkSPORT, the Champions League winner may not return to action until March, marking another extended setback for the player.
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim had initially stated that Mount would be sidelined for “several weeks,” but the latest reports suggest a worse prognosis.
“I don’t know the exact date, but it’s going to be for long. And that’s it, it’s part of football and you continue,” said Amorim.
The 39-year-old manager expressed his commitment to supporting Mount throughout his recovery, aiming to help him adapt to the team’s system during his time away from the pitch.
“What I can do is to help Mase, to teach him how to play our game when he’s recovering,” Amorim explained. “To try to use that time for him to think about different things. I think the worst part is that we don’t have time to train like we should do, when you are recovering from a lot of injuries.
“With Mason Mount, we are going to help him. It is really hard for a player to be out for so long and is trying really hard, the same for me. If they try really hard, we will help them until the end.”
