Security agencies, including the Military, Police, Department of State Services and Civil Defense, have been stationed at key locations across the 27 Local Government Areas in Imo State, in collaboration with local vigilantes, to guarantee a smooth and secure celebration throughout the festive season.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the State Command, ASP Henry Okoye, explained that this deployment aims to reassure residents, especially those returning for the holiday, that their safety will be prioritized during their stay in the state.
Okoye mentioned that the operation, which is part of the Christmas and New Year security measures, is being conducted in partnership with other agencies to ensure public safety.
“The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Hamzat Abdulkardir, who represented the CP, reaffirmed the police and security agencies’ commitment to ensuring a peaceful festive period and beyond,” Okoye stated.
He further explained that joint teams made up of the Police, Military, NSCDC, and DSS have been deployed across the state’s senatorial districts, working together with local vigilantes.
“These teams are conducting confidence-building patrols, show-of-force, intelligence-led operations, and strengthening night patrols to deter criminal activities and ensure a peaceful festive season,” he added.
Additionally, the Federal Road Safety Corps and Police Traffic Wardens have been strategically deployed to ensure smooth traffic flow across the state.
Okoye noted that the CP and other service commanders have urged the personnel to maintain professionalism and respect human rights in the course of their operations.
