A tragic light aircraft crash claimed at least seven lives on Sunday in a remote, forested region of Jalisco, western Mexico, local authorities have confirmed.
The ill-fated Cessna 207 had been en route from La Parota, located in the neighboring state of Michoacan.
Jalisco Civil Protection announced on social media that the crash occurred in an area that posed significant challenges for access.
Authorities on the scene provided “a preliminary count of seven people dead,” whose identities remain unknown at this time, according to the agency.
Emergency teams extinguished a fire at the crash site and took measures to mitigate further risks, the agency noted, emphasizing their efforts to “prevent possible additional damage.”
“A fire was extinguished and risk mitigation was carried out to prevent possible additional damage,” it added.
Forensic investigators were expected to arrive to recover the bodies and confirm if there were any additional victims, authorities stated.
