The Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos State Command, has called for calm and caution following a major traffic disruption on the Kara Bridge, Berger, along the Ibadan-bound section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
According to The PUNCH, the incident, which occurred early Wednesday, involved a trailer carrying containers that toppled, significantly narrowing the lanes and causing severe traffic congestion in the area.
In a statement released by the Lagos Sector Commander, Kehinde Hamzat, the FRSC expressed concerns over the actions of impatient drivers who compounded the situation by driving against traffic on the Lagos-bound side.
This, according to the agency, led to further gridlock in both directions.
“We are committed to ensuring the safety of all road users,” Hamzat stated. “We urge the public to cooperate with traffic officers on the ground and refrain from actions that could worsen the traffic situation.”
The FRSC disclosed that it is collaborating with the Nigeria Police, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and other agencies to clear the fallen trailer and restore normal traffic flow.
Hamzat assured the public that “professionals and recovery equipment have been deployed to remove the trailer and ease the traffic congestion.”
Motorists were advised to explore alternative routes and, where possible, postpone non-essential trips to reduce the pressure on the affected road.
“We encourage road users to exercise patience and caution during this period to ensure safety for all,” the statement added.
The FRSC reiterated its commitment to resolving the situation promptly and urged commuters to adhere to traffic regulations to prevent further disruptions.
