The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended three suspected armed robbers and seized a locally-made firearm, ammunition, and other incriminating items during a raid in the Sabon Layi area of the state.
Ahmed Wakil, the Police Public Relations Officer, revealed on Saturday that the suspects were arrested by a patrol team from the ‘C’ Divisional Police Headquarters. The first suspect, identified as Suleiman Adamu, 40, was nabbed during the operation.
Among the items recovered were a locally-made revolver, eight rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, three used shells, and two motorcycle number plates.
Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of another suspect, 30-year-old Adamu Sale, also known as Dogo, from the Rafin Makaranta area. Sale has been implicated in several armed robbery incidents in Zaranda village.
“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to using the firearm to steal three motorcycles, which they sold to Jibrin Mohammed, 30, of the Railway Area, Bauchi,” Wakil stated.
Jibrin, who admitted to purchasing stolen motorcycles, disclosed that he bought one for N70,000 and sold it to scrap metal dealers for N80,000. He also confessed to resolving a confrontation privately when the owner of a previously stolen motorcycle identified him.
The Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed, has directed officers to expand the investigation to identify other accomplices and recover additional stolen motorcycles.
Wakil emphasized the commitment of the Bauchi State Police to tackling criminal activities. “This arrest underscores our resolve to ensure the safety of residents and bring criminals to justice,” he said.
