Barcelona secured their fourth straight victory in this season’s UEFA Champions League group stage with a 3-0 triumph over Brest on Tuesday night at the Montjuïc Olympic Stadium.
Despite a dominant performance from the outset, it took Hansi Flick’s side until the 65th minute to gain a firm grip on the match.
However, once they found their rhythm, they comfortably sailed to a well-deserved win, snapping a brief winless run and moving closer to clinching an automatic spot in the Round of 16.
Barça wasted no time asserting control, breaking the deadlock just 10 minutes in. Robert Lewandowski was brought down in the box by Brest goalkeeper Marco Bizot, and the Polish striker coolly converted the ensuing penalty, marking his 100th Champions League goal and giving the home side an early lead.
From that point, Barcelona’s superiority was evident. They pressed high, maintained possession with ease, and displayed sharp passing and relentless intensity when recovering the ball.
The only missing ingredient in the first half was clinical execution in the final third. Despite creating numerous chances, they struggled to deliver the decisive pass or finish.
Brest’s defense, aided by a few crucial saves from Bizot and last-ditch clearances, managed to keep the deficit to a single goal as the first half ended.
While Barça were in control, their slim advantage left room for improvement heading into the second period.
The pattern continued after the break. Barcelona dominated possession and orchestrated flowing moves but were let down by their decision-making and finishing.
Dani Olmo came close to doubling the lead with a shot cleared off the line, but the score remained 1-0 as the hour mark approached.
Persistence paid off in the 65th minute when Gerard Martín delivered a stunning pass to Dani Olmo, who skillfully navigated through Brest’s defense and slotted home to make it 2-0. The goal lifted the pressure, and Barcelona comfortably saw out the rest of the game.
In stoppage time, Alejandro Balde set up Lewandowski for his second goal of the night, a sublime finish that sealed the victory.
Barça’s dominance throughout was undeniable, and while the scoreline stood at 3-0, it could have been far more lopsided with better finishing.
This win puts Barcelona in a strong position to secure automatic qualification for the Round of 16 and ends their brief winless run.
With another home fixture in La Liga approaching, the team will look to build on this momentum and continue their resurgence. A solid performance overall.
