The father of Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has passed away.
The player announced the news on his Instagram story shared on Friday morning.
Nwabali, who currently plays for South Africa’s Chippa United, shared his grief with fans but did not reveal the cause behind his father’s death.
Accompanying a tearful emoji, the 27-year-old goalkeeper posted a heartfelt message, “Rest in peace, dad.”
This somber news arrives just hours after Nwabali led Nigeria’s national team, the Super Eagles, to a 1-1 draw against the Benin Republic in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match held on Thursday night in Abidjan.
As Nwabali grieves his loss, there is speculation he may miss Nigeria’s upcoming AFCON qualifier match against Rwanda, scheduled to take place in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, as he takes time to mourn his father’s passing.
