President Bola Tinubu has urged media managers to maintain factual reporting and uphold professional integrity.
Tinubu gave this urge at the All Nigerian Editors Conference held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
The conference, themed ‘Economic Growth and Development Strategies in a Resource-Rich Country’, gathered media owners, editors, and other stakeholders who voiced their concerns to President Tinubu about the challenges facing Nigeria’s media industry in the current economic landscape.
Representing the President at the event, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, delivered Tinubu’s speech, underscoring the media’s influential role in national development.
Tinubu remarked, “As editors and media managers, your role in national development cannot be overemphasized. You are the custodians of public perception, the gatekeepers of information, and the voice of the people.”
His statement highlighted the media’s vital responsibility in shaping public opinion and holding the government accountable.
In his message, Tinubu also addressed the media’s transformative power, emphasizing how responsible and truthful reporting can enhance public understanding of government actions.
He called on journalists and editors to support the nation’s progress through accurate and constructive reporting, which could help foster trust and transparency between the government and citizens.
“My administration is committed to turning our challenges into opportunities by ensuring that our vast resources bring prosperity to all Nigerians,” Tinubu said. “With a united effort from government, citizens, and the media, we can build a resilient, diversified economy that offers security, opportunity, and hope for all Nigerians.”
Moreover, Tinubu expressed his vision for Nigeria, citing the country’s extensive human and natural resources as critical assets for future prosperity.
He shared that his mission, as endorsed by the electorate, is to unlock Nigeria’s potential.
“This is the question that I believe Nigerians elected me to answer decisively. And it is the question that has fueled my vision for a country that truly lives up to its full potential,” he added.
The conference not only provided a platform for President Tinubu to reinforce his commitment to national growth but also enabled media stakeholders to urge the administration to address the pressing issues within the media sector.
