Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League woes deepened on Wednesday as they suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Atlético Madrid, leaving them in a precarious position in their group.
The match started on a positive note for PSG when young talent Warren Zaire Emery scored the opening goal, but their lead was short-lived.
Nahuel Molina responded swiftly for Atlético, equalizing before halftime in a first half that lacked much flair.
The match appeared headed for a draw, but in dramatic fashion, Ángel Correa struck the decisive blow for Atlético in the dying seconds, converting a goal in the third minute of added time to secure the win.
With just four points from their first four matches, PSG are currently 25th in the 36-team group stage, facing the looming threat of elimination.
Meanwhile, Atlético Madrid, who had been languishing in the red zone, moved up to a more comfortable position with six points.
Looking ahead, PSG will face tough away trips to Bayern Munich and RB Salzburg in their next fixtures, while Atlético will look to continue their momentum with matches against Sparta Prague and Slovan Bratislava, the former away and the latter at home.
