In a recent crackdown on criminal activities, the Lagos State Government has apprehended 21 individuals during a coordinated surveillance operation across Ikoyi, Victoria Island, and Lekki-Ajah.
The operation, conducted on Saturday, aimed to address the issue of miscreants and destitute individuals causing disturbances in these areas.
Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, shared details of the operation on X.com (formerly Twitter).
“A coordinated surveillance was carried out today to checkmate the menace of miscreants and the nuisance caused by destitutes across Ikoyi, VI, and the Lekki-Ajah corridor,” Wahab stated.
He further elaborated that the operation covered key locations, including Awolowo Way, Alfred Rewane Road in Ikoyi, and the Lekki-Ajah Expressway, which were monitored throughout the day.
According to Wahab, among the 21 arrested were three ex-convicts, one individual suspected of internet stalking, and 17 others believed to be involved in illegal activities, such as the illicit sale of petroleum products along the roadside.
Wahab also revealed that “the operation led to the recovery of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, as well as gallons of fuel.”
This move is part of the Lagos State Government’s ongoing efforts to curb crime and maintain order in the city, particularly in high-profile areas such as Ikoyi, Victoria Island, and Lekki-Ajah.
