The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, Felix Ogbe, announced that the board aims to achieve 70% Nigerian content in the oil and gas sector by 2027.
According to The PUNCH, Ogbe made this declaration during a visit to BEAMCO Nigeria Limited’s facilities in Lagos, where he praised the company for its progress in manufacturing equipment components.
He commended Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited, the Saipem-Daewoo Joint Venture, and BEAMCO Limited for their efforts in enhancing in-country value addition.
Ogbe highlighted that locally assembled pumps and valves are now set for installation and pre-inauguration activities on the NLNG Train-7 project located on Bonny Island, Rivers State.
Speaking at a load-out ceremony held at BEAMCO’s facility in Apapa, Lagos, the NCDMB leader emphasized that this accomplishment in sourcing critical components domestically was made possible by the Equipment Component Manufacturing Initiative, which the NCDMB introduced in 2013.
Ogbe explained that the initiative led to the issuance of the Nigerian Content Equipment Certificate, a requirement for participating in equipment supply within the oil and gas industry.
He further noted that the implementation of this initiative ensured that NLNG, through its main contractor, Saipem-Daewoo, awarded BEAMCO the contract to supply 17 American Petroleum Institute pumps and 19 control valves, in accordance with the NCDMB’s approved vendor list for the NLNG Train-7 project.
“Nigeria is proud that BEAMCO will be delivering quality pumps and valves on schedule.” He added,
“This is a demonstration that the Nigerian business environment provides all the enablers to support manufacturing and assembly,” Ogbe said.
He continued by affirming that the company’s accomplishments validated the recent Presidential Directives on Local Content implementation.
These directives mandate that contracts in the oil and gas sector be awarded exclusively to local companies with established and proven in-country capabilities.
Ogbe pledged that the NCDMB would continue to support BEAMCO in expanding its capabilities, including backward integration in the manufacturing of pump and valve components within Nigeria.
He assured other purpose-driven companies in the oil and gas subsector, saying, “Together we will achieve more of similar milestones in the industry, as part of our collective commitment to achieve 70 per cent Nigerian Content by 2027.”
At the event, other components and accessories dispatched included four pumps, two Reflux pumps and two Amine booster pumps and five valves, two Mark 100 valves, one Mark One valve, and two flowtop valves.
