Operatives of the Plateau State Police Command have apprehended a man suspected of inciting violence on TikTok in relation to an upcoming nationwide protest against hardship.
The individual, known on TikTok as Dam-Mallam68, is accused of creating a provocative video that led to his arrest by the police.
According to The PUNCH, in a statement released on Sunday night, Spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, Alabo Alfred, confirmed the arrest, stating, “Following the release of a TikTok video that occupied the social media space, stimulating violence in connection with the planned nationwide protest, the Plateau State Police Command has trailed and arrested the author of the inciting video.”
The statement continued, “On 27/07/2024, the attention of the Command was drawn to the video putatively emanating from a TikTok account, identified as ‘Dam-Mallam68.’”
Alfred detailed that the video featured the suspect urging the public to attack security forces and destroy important state and private infrastructures as part of the protest activities.
The Commissioner of Police for Plateau State, Emmanuel Adesina, then deployed the Command’s resources to locate and apprehend the individual responsible for the video.
As a result, Suleiman Yakubu, a 34-year-old resident of Jos North, Plateau State, was arrested on 28/07/2024 at around 11:30 AM on Ahmadu Bello Way, Jos, based on reliable intelligence.
Alfred noted, “While in our custody, the suspect confessed to being the one in the video. Meanwhile, an investigation is still ongoing.”
The CP emphasized the commitment to preventing any attempts to disrupt the peace in the state and urged residents to remain law-abiding.
“The Plateau State Commissioner of Police also urges the good people of Plateau State to be law abiding and refrain from making inciting comments that will threaten peace and security in the State,” he stated.
Residents were advised to report suspicious activities to the police and to report any officer engaged in misconduct.
