At least 40 persons are feared dead following a tanker truck explosion caused by a crash in central Liberia.
According to AFP, this was disclosed by the country’s chief medical officer, Francis Kateh,in statements to local media on Wednesday.
The incident happened when a tanker transporting gasoline overturned and plunged into a roadside ditch near Totota, situated approximately 130 kilometers (80 miles) away from Monrovia, the capital city.
Dr. Francis Kateh, speaking to local broadcaster Super Bongese TV, highlighted the complexity in determining the exact casualty count due to some victims being severely burnt.
Nevertheless, he estimated the toll of the accident to exceed 40 fatalities.
“We have our team going from home to home to check those that are missing,” he told AFP.
