A student of the Taraba State university, identified as Abdulrashid Ibrahim was reported stabbed in the neck in Jalingo, the State capital on Friday.
State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Usman, confirmed the incident, noting that it occurred on Friday in the university’s mosque.
The incident comes barely a day after a secondary school teacher was stabbed to death in the state.
Usman sais, “On November 10, 2023, at about 9:15 am, information was received from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Sunkani, the administrative headquarters of Ardo-Kola, that one Abdulrashid Ibrahim, a student of the university, was stabbed by a suspect, Abdullahi Babangida Ahmed.”
The police said the victim was a final-year student of the Faculty of Health Science Department of Medical Laboratory at the university. He reportedly met the suspect sleeping inside the university mosque and asked questions about his mission inside the mosque.
An altercation ensued between the two of them, leading to the suspect stabbing the student in the neck with a knife.
The PPRO confirmed that the victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo, before the arrival of police officers.
“The suspect was arrested and the commissioner of police has ordered a clinical investigation into the case to unravel the motives behind his presence on the university premises,” the PPRO stated.
