The Oyo State Government has revealed that an alternative route from Oki junction to Olodo Garage will be opened for motorists on Wednesday, providing relief while the reconstruction of the Olodo bridge is underway.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Information and Orientation, the opening of the alternative route aims to alleviate the hardship faced by road users during the construction period.
The Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Professor Dahud Kehinde Sangodoyin, emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring smooth traffic flow.
Sangodoyin explained that repair works on the alternative route, which was selected to manage traffic, are nearing completion. The contractor has been working diligently to expedite the process.
He stated, “Due to heavy rainfall caused by climatic changes, we need to construct a new bridge at Olodo. To minimize the inconvenience on the Iwo-Road-Olodo-Odo-Oba road, we have identified the easiest way to create an alternative route.”
The statement quoted Mr. Israel Eleta, the Project Manager of Peculiar Ultimate Concern Limited, who confirmed that the ongoing repair works on the alternative routes are almost finished. Addressing concerns about failed sections of the route, Eleta assured that these areas are being fixed.
“We are currently working on the failed portions of the road, as most of them have deteriorated over time. We have also made provisions for the damaged culverts. Instead of using traditional culverts, we are implementing iron steel, which allows for immediate use by vehicles without the need for lengthy curing periods,” Eleta explained.
The alternative road will span from Oki junction to Olodo Garage, and every effort is being made to ensure that it is completed by the target day.
Residents of Olodo expressed their gratitude to the state government for its prompt response. Pa Olofinjana Abdulrazak, a resident, stated that the alternative road will greatly alleviate the stress faced by motorists and commuters.
