Two policemen have been reportedly killed after yet-to-be-identified gunmen attacked the convoy of the Commissioner for Trade, Commerce, and Industry, Dr. Chibueze Ukaegbu.
According to Channels, the gunmen also set ablaze one of the government vehicle during the attack.
The Commissioner’s convoy was attacked by assailants while on their way to the Ekoha shopping plaza for a familiarisation tour.
During the subsequent disorder, a police constable who was part of the convoy was fatally shot. Regrettably, a police inspector present at the scene for an unrelated assignment also perished.
The Commissioner of Police has stated that an extensive investigation is currently in progress with the aim of apprehending and prosecuting the individuals responsible for the incident. The Commissioner expressed disapproval of the violent act and urged the public to remain calm and cooperate.
ASP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, representing the Commissioner of Police, emphasised the significance of any information, regardless of its perceived insignificance, in aiding the apprehension of the individuals responsible for this abhorrent act.
The Police Force, represented by its spokesperson, expressed a strong dedication to seeking justice and promoting the victory of good over evil in this tragic incident.
They emphasised the importance of the community and law enforcement agencies working together to combat such senseless acts of violence.
