A UK pedestrian was killed by a 60-year-old Nigerian bus driver by name, Olisofa Popoola. This happened near London’s Victoria Station when he accidentally used the accelerator instead of the brake.
According to The Punch, the pedestrian, Melissa Burr, was killed after sustaining multiple injuries in the collision on Terminus Place outside of London’s Victoria railway station.
Popoola from Peckham, South London, has been reported to be on trial at the Old Bailey for causing death by reckless driving after he put his foot on the accelerator instead of the brake.
According to the prosecutor Alex Williams, who spoke in court on Monday, the bus terminal at Victoria was particularly congested that morning due to the Circle and District Tube lines being inoperable.
William remarked, “The parked bus jerked forward. Ms. Burr was thrown up and forward as it struck her. The people behind her retreated out of the way.
“The bus’s driver was launched from the vehicle’s door and onto the pavement.
“The driverless parked bus did not stop but continued to move forward, running over Ms. Burr who ended up underneath the bus and regrettably she died as a result of the multiple injuries that she sustained.”
The investigation found that the defendant did not apply the brake and that his right foot was near the accelerator.
