Between 2015 and 2021, at least 28,358 Nigerians were invited to apply for permanent residency in Canada.
This is in line with a Punch study of the Express Entry yearly reports that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada released for the years under consideration.

In the four years from 2015 to 2019, Nigeria’s ranking among applicants who acquired an ITA from the Canadian authorities increased from seventh to second most frequently.
The number of Nigerians who received ITAs increased dramatically (889%) throughout that time.
In spite of the COVID-19 epidemic in 2020, the number of Nigerians invited to Canadian PR events increased by 10%, from 5,882 to 6,550.
However, in the year before, that number fell by 52%.
According to the breakdown, ITAs were issued in 609, 1041, 5129, and 6,024 cases in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018, respectively.
While 5882, 6550, and 3123 invitations were sent out in each of the following years: 2019, 2020, and 2021.
The nation of West Africa came in third place globally in 2020, trailing only China and India.
But in 2021, South Koreans obtained ITAs more frequently than Nigerians did, although by a slim margin of seven.
The IRCC received at least 2,209,630 profile submissions from 2015 to 2021. Of those profiles, 59% (1,303,490) were deemed “eligible” for at least one federal immigration program. On the other hand, 51% (906,140) were disqualified.
The IRCC processed over 5.2 million applications for citizenship, temporary status, and permanent status in 2022.
As a result, there were twice as many applications processed in 2021.
